The Strategic Crystal Land Project in Arizona

SoftBank founder Masayoshi Son is negotiating with TSMC and Samsung, as well as with the U.S. government, to implement the large-scale Crystal Land project in Arizona. The complex is intended to become the largest manufacturing hub in the country, specializing in the production of robotics and artificial intelligence-based systems.

Current discussions cover issues such as tax incentives, the involvement of startups in the Vision Fund portfolio, and details of partnership programs. Experts note that in terms of scale and significance, Crystal Land could become the American equivalent of China’s Shenzhen and help bring high-tech manufacturing back to the USA.

Involvement of Tech Giants and Funding

TSMC, the largest chip manufacturer for Nvidia, which is already building its own $165 billion factory in Arizona, could play a key role in the project. However, sources claim that SoftBank’s plans have not yet impacted TSMC’s current projects.

SoftBank is also discussing the involvement of Samsung and other technology industry leaders. Crystal Land may include factories for robot production, as well as startups from the SoftBank ecosystem, including Agile Robots and several other AI-focused projects. Funding for the complex is being considered based on models already used in the construction of large data centers, such as Stargate.

“The successful implementation, according to analysts, will depend on the interest of major tech players and support from federal and local authorities, including the Trump administration.”

It has been reported that SoftBank representatives have already held meetings with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and other high-ranking officials.

SoftBank plans to combine funding for Crystal Land with further investments in OpenAI and the recent acquisition of Ampere Computing for $6.5 billion. The company has liquidity of $23 billion and a significant stake in Arm Holdings, allowing it to raise additional capital against its assets.

Analysts emphasize that this ambitious project demonstrates Masayoshi Son’s desire to leave a technological legacy in the field of artificial intelligence, despite the high risks. The successful implementation of Crystal Land could be pivotal for the return of strategic manufacturing to the USA and strengthen SoftBank’s position as a key player in the AI infrastructure market.
