Russian Army Losses Exceed One Thousand Soldiers in a Day – General Staff Data

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over the past day, the Russian army has lost about 1,020 servicemen. The total personnel losses of the Russian Federation, according to estimates from the Ukrainian command, have already reached approximately 1,356,940 individuals since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Russian Equipment Losses on the Front

The General Staff also released updated statistics regarding the losses of Russian military equipment. Over the past day, the following were destroyed or damaged:

  • 11,953 tanks (+3 in a day)
  • 24,608 armored combat vehicles (+5)
  • 42,687 artillery systems (+47)
  • 1,802 multiple launch rocket systems (+2)
  • 1,396 air defense systems
  • 436 aircraft
  • 353 helicopters
  • 1,465 ground robotic complexes (+14)
  • 310,245 operational-tactical level drones (+1,924)
  • 4,687 cruise missiles (+55)
  • 33 ships and boats
  • 2 submarines
  • 99,000 vehicles and fuel tankers (+302)
  • 4,218 units of special equipment (+2)

Estimates of Russian Losses: Official and Independent Data

On May 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that since the beginning of 2026, Russian losses on the front have exceeded 145,000 individuals. Of these, nearly 86,000 were killed, at least 59,000 sustained serious injuries, and over 800 Russian soldiers were taken prisoner.

It is worth noting that Russia does not officially disclose its losses. The last time Moscow published such data was in September 2022, when it officially acknowledged the death of 5,937 servicemen.

Independent investigations by the Russian publications “Meduza” and “Mediazona,” together with a team of volunteers and the Russian service of the BBC, estimate the losses of the Russian army at 352,000 individuals as of the end of 2025. Of this number, 261,000 are considered “ordinary” dead, while another 90,000 are regarded as dead or missing based on court decisions or due to delays in death registration.

According to journalists, this data is based on named lists of the deceased, data from the Russian Register of Inheritance Cases, and open sources. As of April 2026, it has been possible to confirm the names of at least 212,188 Russian servicemen who have died in the war against Ukraine since February 2022.
