Prices for Young Potatoes in Ukraine Decrease Due to Increased Supply

The Ukrainian market is experiencing a further decline in prices for young potatoes from the 2025 harvest. The main factors contributing to the decrease in vegetable prices are favorable weather conditions and the acceleration of the harvesting campaign in most regions of the country, which has led to a significant increase in supply volumes in the domestic market.

Seasonal Factors and Product Quality

Currently, farms are offering young potatoes at prices ranging from 11 to 18 UAH/kg ($0.26–$0.43 per kilogram), which is on average 10% cheaper compared to last week. At the same time, experts point out that the quality of the offered products often remains low, which additionally affects price formation.

“The main reason for the price decrease is the so-called seasonal factor, where the supply volumes of this product in the market increase almost daily. At the same time, the quality of the offered potatoes is often quite low, which also puts pressure on prices in this segment,” noted analysts.

Price Dynamics and Forecasts

According to analytical estimates, in the second half of July last year, potato prices in Ukraine were 23% lower than they are now. Despite this, experts do not rule out further price declines in the near future due to the gradual increase in market supply.

The cost of potatoes in supermarkets varies. In particular, at “Silpo,” the vegetable is sold for 27 UAH/kg, at ATB for 19.95 UAH/kg, and at Varus, the price is 22.90 UAH/kg. This indicates a wide price range depending on the chain and product quality.
