Night Attacks by Russia Leave Three Regions of Ukraine Without Power

On the night of March 2, Russian military forces continued their massive attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, resulting in power outages for consumers in the Donetsk, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia regions. This was reported by the company “Ukrenergo,” which noted that emergency recovery operations are being conducted wherever security conditions allow.

Increased Electricity Consumption and Recommendations

According to energy specialists, the level of electricity consumption on Monday morning increased by 7.6% compared to the same time on Friday. This is associated with a rise in air temperature and a reduction in restrictive measures. The operator emphasizes the need for economical use of electricity and recommends, where possible, to shift energy-intensive processes to after 10:00 PM.

“As of this morning, there are consumers without power in the Donetsk, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Emergency recovery operations are being carried out wherever security conditions currently allow.”

Mass Attacks and Government Response

On the evening of March 1, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his video address, noted that the country successfully endured the most challenging winter of the war, thanking the military, energy workers, and other services for their efforts. At the same time, he warned that Russia is not stopping its strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, the Russian Federation has systematically shelled Ukrainian energy facilities. These attacks have become particularly intense since the fall of 2025, when strikes on the energy sector significantly increased.

The Security Service of Ukraine qualifies the strikes on energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity. According to the SBU, since the start of the current heating season, at least 256 air attacks by the Russian Federation on energy facilities and heating systems in Ukraine have been recorded.
