New ferry route to connect Ukraine and Georgia via the Middle Corridor

The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi seaport has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Batumi International Container Terminal LLC (BICT), which manages container, ferry, and general terminals at the seaport of Batumi (Georgia). This was reported by the head of the Ukrainian port, Oksana Kiktenko.

Expansion of cooperation within the Trans-Caspian route

The agreement is the second initiative of cooperation for the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi seaport aimed at developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor. The main goal of the signed document is to attract additional cargo flows through the Middle Corridor by expanding cargo handling capabilities at the ports.

According to the plans, the new ferry route will connect the terminals of the Ukrainian and Georgian ports. This involves the creation of a road-rail ferry complex, which is being developed by the new owner of the Ukrainian port, taking into account the specific requirements for servicing cargo on the TITR route.

The strategic role of the port in logistics

“Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi seaport” plans to become the largest hub of the TITR from the European side of the route, emphasized Kiktenko.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian port had previously signed a memorandum with APM Terminals Poti as part of the development of this same transport corridor. Such agreements aim not only to strengthen logistical ties between Ukraine and Georgia but also to enhance the country’s position in implementing large international transport projects.
