Ukraine Aims to Strengthen Energy Integration with the EU
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that one of the key tasks for the near future remains enhancing the capabilities for importing and exporting electricity with the European Union. This will not only ensure the stability of energy supply but also strengthen Ukraine’s energy independence.
“There are many tasks ahead, with the priority being to enhance the capabilities for importing and exporting electricity with Europe. In the next two years, we plan to add at least 1.5 GW of interconnections,” the Ministry of Energy reported.
Steps Towards Energy Independence
The agency reminded that on March 16, 2022, Ukraine joined the European energy network ENTSO-E. This decision became a key factor for the stable operation of the country’s energy system even during the most challenging winter periods.
In the four years since integrating into ENTSO-E, Ukraine has managed to increase its import capacity from zero to 2450 MW, transitioning from receiving emergency assistance to full participation in the unified European energy market. The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that these achievements have allowed the country to finally rid itself of years of energy dependence on the Russian Federation.
