Metaplanet Invests Another $118 Million in Bitcoin, Approaching 10,000 BTC

The Japanese investment company Metaplanet has made another significant purchase of Bitcoin, adding 1,088 BTC to its portfolio for approximately $118 million. This move brings Metaplanet closer to its ambitious goal of reaching 10,000 BTC under management by the end of 2025.

Growth of Metaplanet’s Portfolio and Profitability

According to the company’s official release, the average purchase price of one Bitcoin during the latest acquisition was $108,596.37. As of June 2, 2025, Metaplanet owns 8,888 BTC with a total value of $855.6 million (¥122.27 billion), and the average purchase price is $96,264 per coin.

The current market value of Bitcoin is $105,571, allowing the company’s portfolio to remain in a zone of unrealized profit of about $83 million.

Profitability Dynamics and Impact on Company Shares

Metaplanet has demonstrated impressive profitability metrics from investments in the leading cryptocurrency. According to the company’s data, the returns over various periods were as follows:

  • from July 1 to September 30, 2024 – 41.7%;
  • from October 1 to December 31, 2024 – 309.8%;
  • from January 1 to March 31, 2025 – 95.6%;
  • from April 1 to June 2, 2025 – 66.3%.

Compared to the data from May 12, 2025, the profitability in the second quarter increased by another 28.3%.

Amid the active accumulation of crypto assets, Metaplanet’s shares have also shown significant growth. Over the past month, their value has risen by 179.5%.

The company has repeatedly stated its plans to expand its investments in Bitcoin to 10,000 BTC by the end of the current year, as well as its intentions to open a division in the United States for further business development.
