On the night of May 17, a series of explosions occurred in Moscow and the Moscow region as a result of a massive drone attack. Local residents reported a significant number of explosions and the operation of air defense systems, particularly in the suburban cities of Khimki, Lobnya, and Naro-Fominsk.

Damage to Strategic Facilities
As a result of the strikes, a fire broke out at the Elma tech park. This enterprise is known as a manufacturer of electronic equipment, measuring instruments, optical devices, and other products. Among the affected facilities are also mentioned the Moscow oil refinery and the MKB Raduga plant, which specializes in the development of cruise missiles and missile technology for the military needs of the Russian Federation.
Monitoring channels released videos showing several strike drones moving synchronously towards the Moscow region, as well as the aftermath of strikes on the oil products transshipment station “Sonechnogorskaya” in the village of Durikino near Moscow.
Official Data and Consequences
The Mayor of Moscow, Sergey Sobyanin, confirmed the fact of the drone attack on the capital of the Russian Federation and reported casualties among the civilian population. According to him, the construction workers near the entrance of the Moscow oil refinery were the most affected. In total, twelve people were injured, three residential buildings were damaged, but the technological process at the plant remained unchanged.
“As a result of the drone strikes, preliminary data indicates that twelve people were injured. Mainly, the construction workers near the entrance of the Moscow oil refinery were affected. The technological process of the plant has not been disrupted. Three buildings were damaged,” Sobyanin wrote.
According to official information, throughout the night, the air defense forces of the Russian Federation shot down over 120 drones in the region.
At the time of publication, the Ukrainian side had not released comments regarding this attack. It is worth noting that this is not the first instance of such actions: two days earlier, drones attacked one of the largest oil refineries in Russia.
