Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart has announced her intention to change her country of residence and embark on a new phase of her career in Europe. The star of the “Twilight” saga explained that she made this decision due to the political course of U.S. President Donald Trump and the strict restrictions that, according to her, the American film industry imposes on independent artists.

Creative Restrictions and Conflict with Trump
Kristen Stewart openly shared her thoughts about the future and her own experiences living in the United States. Currently, the actress resides between New York and Los Angeles, but she does not consider America a country for long-term living and professional development. She emphasized that the conditions for independent creativity in the U.S. are unacceptable, particularly for artists who seek to realize their original projects.
“I can’t work freely there. But I don’t want to give up completely. I would like to make films in Europe and then shove them down the throats of the American people,” the actress shared.
Stewart’s directorial debut titled “The Chronology of Water” has already been realized in Latvia. She explained that filming this movie in the U.S. was impossible due to overly strict restrictions for independent cinema and emerging directors.

Criticism of the System and Examples of Other Hollywood Stars
The conflict between Kristen Stewart and Donald Trump has been ongoing for over a decade. In the past, Trump publicly commented on the actress’s personal life, and now Stewart criticizes the president’s policies, particularly his initiative to impose a 100% tariff on films made outside the U.S. She believes such moves are destructive for the entire film industry.
Stewart also condemns the current entertainment system in the United States, describing it as a “capitalist hell,” where independent voices and women artists often remain sidelined. In her opinion, such conditions create barriers to genuine creative self-expression.
In addition to Kristen Stewart, several other Hollywood celebrities have decided to leave the U.S. or temporarily change their residence due to the political situation:
- James Cameron: The director of “Titanic” and “Avatar” moved to New Zealand, citing psychological exhaustion from living in the U.S. during Trump’s presidency.
- George Clooney: Obtained French citizenship and changed his country of residence.
- Jim Jarmusch: The cult director has applied for French citizenship.
- Ellen DeGeneres: Decided to settle in the United Kingdom.
- Rosie O’Donnell: The comedian and actress moved to Ireland.
- Tom Hanks: Announced a “politically motivated vacation” abroad after the presidential election, emphasizing that this is a temporary decision.
