New Plant for the Rapidly Growing Steel Market in India

The official agreement to create the joint company was signed on March 30, 2026. The main goal of the project is to meet the high growth rates of steel demand in India. To achieve this, the technical expertise of JFE and the operational resources of JSW have been combined, allowing for the effective utilization of each party’s strengths.

The production facilities of the new enterprise are located in Sambalpur, Kolkata, and Chandigarh, with a total annual capacity of 4.5 million tons of steel. The company produces a wide range of products – both flat and long products, focusing on the needs of the automotive and construction industries.

Investments, Strategic Location, and Prospects

JFE is investing approximately 270 billion yen in the project. This step is an important element of the Japanese company’s strategy, which aims to achieve over 200 billion yen in profit from international operations by 2035.

The plant is strategically located near important iron ore deposits and has access to developed railway and road infrastructure. This ensures a stable supply of raw materials and competitive costs, supporting JFE’s long-term goal of expanding its international business.

The presence of developed infrastructure and proximity to the raw material base allows the enterprise to ensure reliable material supply and optimize logistics costs. This creates the conditions for the sustainable development of the new metallurgical site and contributes to achieving the ambitious financial and production goals of the partners.
