What Rights Does Temporary Protection Provide in Ireland

According to a statement from the official portal of the Irish Immigration Service, holders of valid documents expiring on March 4, 2024, do not need to renew them. The documents remain valid going forward. Temporary protection grants Ukrainians the right to reside legally, work without additional permits, and access medical services, education, and social support. Additionally, it allows travel to other European Union countries that recognize this status for up to 90 days.

Who Is Affected by the Extension of Protection

The changes apply not only to citizens of Ukraine but also to other individuals covered by the Temporary Protection Directive, including stateless persons and citizens of third countries who left Ukraine due to the war.

“Ireland’s decision aligns with the European Council’s decision, which approved the implementation of the Temporary Protection Directive for all EU countries until March 4, 2027.”

Meanwhile, discussions continue in Europe regarding possible options for the legal status of Ukrainian citizens after the war ends.
