Additional Funds for Ukrainian Infrastructure

As emphasized by Friedrich Merz, in light of recent events, the German government has decided to immediately allocate an additional 170 million euros. These funds will be directed towards supporting Ukraine’s infrastructure to mitigate the effects of Russian attacks, particularly during the winter period when the country’s energy system faces increased strain.

“Germany will continue to support Ukraine at a very high level in the federal budget for 2026. In light of recent events, we have increased this amount by an additional 3 billion euros, bringing the total to 11.5 billion euros. And we are immediately providing an additional 170 million euros for infrastructure to mitigate the impact of Russian terrorism on Ukraine’s winter supplies,” said Merz.

Increase in Military Aid and Freezing of Russian Assets

The Chancellor also highlighted that the total volume of support from Germany in 2026 will reach 11.5 billion euros, thanks to an additional 3 billion already planned in the budget. Merz assured that the country will not withdraw its assistance to Ukraine, emphasizing the strategic importance of this support for the security of all of Europe. He specifically noted the necessity of providing access to frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine’s needs.

Friedrich Merz stressed that the Russian leadership must realize the impossibility of winning the war at the expense of European countries and the European peace order. Germany will continue to support the Ukrainian people for as long as necessary to maintain stability and security in the region.
