Finnish Metso to Join the Development of the Yastrebetz Critical Minerals Deposit in Zhytomyr Region

The Finnish company Metso and the Ukrainian BGV Group Management are starting a new phase of cooperation in the field of extraction and processing of critical minerals in the Zhytomyr region. The partnership focuses on the development of the Yastrebetz deposit, which is rich in zircon, fluorite, and rare earth ores. This is already the second joint project between the companies: previously, they implemented an initiative to build a beneficiation plant at the Balakhivske graphite deposit.

Research and Innovative Technologies

Within the framework of the new project, BGV and Metso have agreed to conduct comprehensive technological research covering the processes of enrichment and extraction of valuable components from the concentrate of the Yastrebetz deposit. The Metso research center has the necessary equipment to process both classical and hydrometallurgical methods for extracting rare earth and other important elements, significantly expanding the potential for the development of Ukrainian projects in the field of critical minerals.

Current State of Work

The development of the Yastrebetz deposit is being handled by the company “CFR GROUP,” which is part of BGV Group Management. Currently, geological and technological studies are underway at the site, the results of which will serve as the basis for accurate calculations of mineral reserves and further determination of optimal methods for their extraction and processing.

This is already the second joint project between BGV and Metso. Previously, the companies collaborated in the graphite sector, developing a beneficiation plant at the Balakhivske deposit. Now the focus has shifted to rare earth and rare metal elements.
