Ethereum Activates the Fusaka Hard Fork in the Hoodi Test Network Ahead of the Main Update

The Ethereum developers have completed a key stage in preparing for a major network update by activating the Fusaka hard fork in the Hoodi test network. This is the final step before the main network update, which is tentatively scheduled for December 2025.

Features of the Fusaka Hard Fork and the New PeerDAS Technology

Fusaka is the latest phase of testing following successful integration in the Holesky and Sepolia test environments. According to the Ethereum Foundation, the main hard fork will occur at least a month after testing in Hoodi, aligning with the previously planned launch date of December 3.

The update will bring numerous improvements to enhance the scalability, efficiency, and security of the network. Key changes include an increase in the gas limit, expanded blob data capacity, and updated node protection mechanisms.

The main innovation will be the implementation of the EIP-7594 proposal, which introduces PeerDAS (Peer Data Availability Sampling). This technology allows validators to verify only parts of the data instead of complete blob objects, improving data availability for L2 solutions and reducing the load on the main network.

Security, Release Preparation, and Ethereum Development Plans

To ensure security, the Ethereum Foundation has initiated a special audit program for Fusaka. Experts who identify vulnerabilities before the update goes live on the mainnet are offered rewards of up to $2 million.

The Fusaka hard fork is the successor to the Pectra update, which was activated six months ago. The development team is already working on the next major upgrade, codenamed Glamsterdam. This update will focus on speeding up block processing and improving the EVM virtual machine.
