The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has set a deadline for the defense to review the materials of the pre-trial investigation in the case concerning the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” party, Yulia Tymoshenko. According to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the decision was made based on a request from NABU detectives.

The Court Established a New Deadline for the Defense
The investigating judge considered the prosecution’s request to set a deadline for the review, as the investigators claimed that the defense was delaying the process. Prosecutors insisted on a deadline of May 6, 2026, but the court set the final deadline to May 24, 2026, inclusive. After this date, the defense will be considered to have exercised its right to access the materials of the pre-trial investigation.
“Despite the prosecution’s request to set the deadline to May 6, 2026, due to the defense’s delays in reviewing the materials, the court decided to establish the corresponding deadline to May 24, 2026, inclusive. From this time, the defense will be considered to have exercised its right to access the materials of the pre-trial investigation,” reports SAP.
Positions of the Parties and Progress of the Case
The prosecution emphasizes that all materials of the case were available to the defense after the completion of the pre-trial investigation on April 7. At the same time, SAP notes that Yulia Tymoshenko herself has not once taken the opportunity to review these materials.
In response, Yulia Tymoshenko accused law enforcement agencies of spreading false information. According to her, she and her lawyers are not being granted access to the “main and only evidence” – the original audio recording and the device on which it was made. She stated: “The original recording of the conversation is stubbornly not being provided to us. Is it not because it is a forgery? Just like the entire case.”
Recall that in January 2026, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office announced suspicions against Yulia Tymoshenko under Part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – offering, promising, or providing unlawful benefits. The materials of the proceedings mention the initiation of negotiations with deputies regarding the implementation of a mechanism for providing unlawful benefits in exchange for loyal voting in the Verkhovna Rada.
After a search at the “Batkivshchyna” party office on January 14, Tymoshenko called the actions of the investigators a political order and “categorically rejected all absurd accusations.” On January 16, the High Anti-Corruption Court chose a preventive measure for her in the form of bail exceeding 33 million hryvnias and imposed a number of procedural obligations, including a ban on leaving the Kyiv region without permission and the obligation to surrender her foreign passport.
In April 2026, NABU and SAP announced the completion of the pre-trial investigation in Tymoshenko’s case. The defense continues to insist that the charges are a provocation and that the materials of the case are fabricated.
