EU to Consider New Quotas for Importing Ukrainian Agricultural Products in October

The Council of the European Union plans to review the trade conditions for agricultural products from Ukraine on October 13. As noted by the chair of the parliamentary budget committee, Roksolana Pidlasa, during the forum “Ukrainian Export: Through Thorns to the EU,” a decision on tariff quotas for certain agricultural goods will be made soon, and the changes will take effect 15 days after adoption.

Significant Increase in Quotas for Ukrainian Exports

According to the new conditions, for 21 out of 34 items currently subject to restrictions, the quota volumes will increase and exceed the maximum possible export volumes that were in place during the period of autonomous trade preferences. The Ukrainian government has already announced an increase in quotas compared to 2021: for honey – by 583.3%, for sugar and processed starch – by 500%, for eggs – by 300%, for butter – by 233.3%, for corn – by 153%, for poultry meat – by 133.3%, for wheat – by 130%, and for ethanol – by 125%.

EU’s Position on Ukrainian Agricultural Products

The European Union’s readiness to review the conditions was also confirmed by Gediminas Navickas, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine. At the same time, European Parliament member Karin Karlsbro pointed to the influence of the internal agricultural lobby in the EU, which has led to high quotas for Ukrainian products. She emphasized that the economic relations between Ukraine and EU countries are mutually beneficial.
