Consequences of the shelling and the injured

According to the head of the district military administration, Oleksandr Seliverstov, the type of weapon used in the strike is currently being determined, as well as the final extent of the destruction. It is known that the shelling damaged the premises of a local pig farm and a cattle farm.

“Unfortunately, the attack claimed a life – a pig farm worker born in 1976 was killed. In addition, the tractor driver of the enterprise, born in 1986, sustained serious head injuries,” Seliverstov stated.

The injured man is being transported in critical condition to the Chernihiv regional hospital for emergency medical assistance.

Targeted strikes on civilian infrastructure

Russian troops continue to systematically shell Ukrainian cities and villages using various types of weapons – strike drones, missiles, aerial bombs, and multiple launch rocket systems. These attacks are often aimed at civilian infrastructure, including systems that provide essential services to the population, healthcare facilities, energy, water supply, and communication.

Ukrainian authorities and international organizations classify such actions as war crimes of the Russian Federation. There is particular concern about targeted shelling that may exhibit signs of genocide, specifically attempts to deprive the civilian population of basic living conditions.

Signs of genocidal actions include not only the destruction of infrastructure and restrictions on access to medical care but also public calls by Russian officials for the destruction of the Ukrainian ethnicity, persecution of pro-Ukrainian citizens in occupied territories, deportations, forced changes of identity for children, and the destruction of elements of Ukrainian culture.

The UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, adopted in 1948 and ratified by 149 countries, obliges states to prevent such crimes and punish those involved in their commission. According to the Convention’s definition, genocide is actions aimed at the complete or partial destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.

At the same time, the leadership of Russia denies the facts of deliberate attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and the deaths of civilians; however, such shelling has continued in various regions of the country since the beginning of the full-scale war.
