Ukrainian Bus Market in March 2026: Imports Increased by Over 300%

In March 2026, the Ukrainian bus market showed significant growth, primarily due to the active import of new vehicles. By the end of the month, the segment of newly imported buses demonstrated the largest increase — their number rose by 307.7% compared to February.

This is reported by Finway

“Overall, 101 units were sold in the new bus market in March. Of these, 53 were imported, which for the first time in a long while exceeded domestic production (48 buses). This dynamic may indicate the fulfillment of large municipal or corporate contracts for fleet renewal.”

Import of New Buses Outpaces Domestic Production

A total of 101 new buses were sold in the Ukrainian market in March, with 53 of them being imported. For the first time in a long period, imports surpassed domestic production — Ukrainian enterprises manufactured 48 units. This gap is attributed to the fulfillment of large orders for cities and corporations aimed at fleet renewal.

Among the new models, the Isuzu Citiport saw the highest demand, confirming cities’ interest in modern public transport. The Ford Transit buses are also very popular, actively used for social and corporate transportation.

Secondary Market and Import of Used Buses

The domestic secondary market has also become more active: 355 purchase and sale transactions for buses were concluded in the month, which is 47.9% more than in February. However, compared to March 2025, this segment lags behind by almost 10%, which experts attribute to the rising costs of maintaining older vehicles.

In the suburban and intercity transportation sector, the leader remains the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, along with popular VDL Citea models. Regarding the import of used buses, their number increased by 26% in March, reaching 97 units. Among the most sought-after models are the Mercedes-Benz Vario, Mercedes-Benz Citaro, and the tourist buses Setra and Van Hool.

Ukrainian bus manufacturers — BAZ, Bogdan/Ataman, and ZAZ — reduced production by 20% in March compared to February. At the same time, in annual terms, production increased by 71.4%, indicating a gradual recovery of the industry.

The results for March indicate an increase in investment in Ukraine’s transport sector and a growing demand for modern, energy-efficient buses.
