President of the United States Donald Trump outlined the main objective of the country’s military campaign against Iran, emphasizing that it will last as long as necessary to achieve the set goals. During a speech in Washington on March 2, Trump noted that he had previously predicted the duration of the operation to be four to five weeks, but does not rule out its extension.

Trump on Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the international agreement
The American leader stressed that Iran will never obtain nuclear weapons and criticized the 2015 agreement between Iran, the UN Security Council, and the European Union, which he considers flawed. According to Trump, this agreement paved the way for Iran to legally acquire nuclear status, which was one of the reasons for the US withdrawal from the deal during his first term.
“I have said this from the very beginning. They will never have nuclear weapons. They were on the path to obtaining it legally due to the agreement that our country foolishly signed,” Trump said.
The US President emphasized that the development of Iran’s ballistic missile program poses a serious threat to America’s security. He reiterated that the Iranian authorities will not be able to acquire nuclear weapons.
Progress of the military operation and Iran’s response
In the early days of the joint military operation by the US and Israel, particularly during the strikes on February 28, the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was eliminated, along with many high-ranking officials of the Iranian leadership.
In response, Iranian military forces carried out massive missile and drone attacks not only against Israel and American facilities in the region but also targeted several neighboring countries that Tehran considers allies of the US. Both military targets and civilian infrastructure were hit: residential buildings, hotels, and airports. Additionally, military units from European countries present in the Middle East were also attacked.
