Circumstances of the Arrest and Woods’ Behavior

According to a video released on social media from police body cameras, the 50-year-old golfer did not admit guilt for traffic violations or driving under the influence. During his interaction with law enforcement, Woods mentioned that he had recently spoken on the phone with the “president.” The golfer is also known for his relationship with Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr.

At the time of the arrest, Woods stated that before the crash, he was looking at his phone and switching radio stations, after which his Land Rover collided with a truck and overturned. Following a sobriety test conducted at the scene, Martin County Deputy Sheriff Tatyana Levenar informed Woods of his arrest, noting that his abilities were impaired under the influence of an unknown substance. Woods denied consuming alcohol but admitted to taking medication.

“I believe your normal abilities are impaired, and you are under the influence of an unknown substance, so you are currently being arrested for driving under the influence,” Deputy Sheriff Tatyana Levenar told Woods after police conducted a series of sobriety tests at the scene involving the 50-year-old golfer.

Donald Trump’s Reaction and Next Steps

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he spoke with Woods after the incident, emphasizing that the golfer is experiencing physical pain from past injuries but is feeling well. Trump stressed that the athlete does not have alcohol problems, but suffers from back and leg pain. The video also captured officers finding a prescription opioid in Woods’ pocket, confirming his chronic pain from previous surgeries.

Woods was released on bail eight hours after his arrest. His case will be heard by a jury, with the next hearing scheduled for early May. According to police, the alcohol test returned negative, but Woods refused to provide a urine sample. During questioning, he was hiccupping and had difficulty following instructions, which further justified his arrest.

In recent years, Woods’ career has been sidelined due to numerous injuries, including an Achilles tendon rupture. Since July 2024, he has not participated in PGA Tour tournaments, but recently returned to play in the new TGL competition, founded alongside Rory McIlroy.

The golfer’s personal life also remains in the public spotlight: his romance with Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., has been frequently discussed in the media. It is known that Trump Jr. divorced Vanessa back in 2018.
