Sviridenko Emphasized the Importance of Competitive Electricity Prices for Industry

Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko highlighted the need for a broad discussion on the cost of electricity for Ukrainian industry, particularly in the context of its competitiveness in the international market. Following a meeting with business representatives in Dnipro, she noted that this issue requires the involvement of government structures, expert communities, and business circles to find optimal solutions.

The Problem of Competitiveness for Ukrainian Enterprises

Sviridenko stressed that electricity tariffs for Ukrainian producers must remain competitive compared to similar prices abroad. Otherwise, she believes, Ukrainian companies may lose their positions in global markets due to decreased competitiveness.

“This issue requires discussion both within the government and in the expert and business communities. If the electricity price for a Ukrainian enterprise is higher than the equivalent price for a company abroad, we will lose competitiveness,” she wrote on Telegram.

The Importance of a Sectoral Approach and the Role of the Mining and Metallurgical Complex

The head of the government specifically noted the key role of the mining and metallurgical complex for the country’s economy, especially for regions located near the front line. According to her, these enterprises not only form a significant part of the economy but also support the social life of entire cities. Sviridenko emphasized the need for increased attention from local authorities and relevant ministries to the issues of domestic tariffs, expanding access to external markets, and overcoming the challenges of Euro-integration. She also mentioned that a similar sectoral approach should be applied to other strategic sectors of the economy.
