Official Dollar and Euro Exchange Rates at Year-End
According to the regulator’s information, the official exchange rate of the US dollar is set at 42.39 hryvnias per dollar. This means that the hryvnia has lost 17 kopecks compared to the previous figure. Thus, on the last day of the year, there is a further weakening of the national currency against the American dollar.
The euro exchange rate has also reached a historical maximum: the official euro exchange rate on December 31 is 49.86 hryvnias per unit of European currency. This figure has become a new record for the euro in the Ukrainian currency market, as the previous maximum was recorded on December 25 – 48.68 hryvnias per euro.
“The official exchange rate of the European currency for Wednesday is set at 49.86 hryvnias per one euro, meaning the hryvnia has lost 21 kopecks. This figure has become yet another historical maximum for the euro exchange rate in Ukraine. The previous record was set on December 25 (48.68 UAH/euro).”
Situation in the Interbank Currency Market
In the interbank market by 16:00, the hryvnia exchange rate against the dollar reached 41.39/42.42 hryvnias per dollar. At the same time, the euro exchange rate in the interbank market remained at 49.86/49.89 hryvnias per euro. This indicates a consistently high demand for foreign currency and continued pressure on the national monetary unit.
The strengthening of the dollar and euro at the end of the year enhances market participants’ expectations regarding further fluctuations in exchange rates at the beginning of the new year.
