Iran Launches Missile-Drone Attack on EGA Aluminum Plant in Abu Dhabi

Iran has carried out a combined attack using missiles and drones on the facility of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) located in Abu Dhabi. As a result of this incident, several employees of the plant were injured.

Attack on One of the World’s Largest Aluminum Plants

The Al Taweelah plant, situated in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, became a target for the strike the day after attacks on two of Iran’s largest steel mills. The EGA facility is of strategic importance to the global aluminum market: last year, the Al Taweelah plant produced approximately 1.6 million tons of cast metal.

“EGA is jointly owned by Mubadala, one of Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth funds, and the Investment Corporation of Dubai.”

Implications for the Global Aluminum Market

Given the risk of supply disruptions of aluminum from the Gulf region, leading automakers began active purchases of this metal as early as last week. Experts indicate that further escalation of the conflict could significantly impact global raw material supply chains, leading to shortages and price fluctuations in global markets.
