IAEA to Inspect Laboratory Near Zaporizhzhia NPP After Drone Attack

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) received a report from Russian military personnel controlling the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant that a drone strike had hit the External Radiation Control Laboratory. The incident occurred today, and the laboratory is located outside the main territory of the plant.

In this regard, the IAEA team at the Zaporizhzhia NPP has requested permission to inspect the External Radiation Control Laboratory (ECRL). Preliminary information indicates that there have been no reports of casualties from the attack.

“IAEA has received information from ZNPP that a drone struck the External Radiation Control Laboratory (ECRL) today.”

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi emphasized that any attacks near nuclear facilities can pose risks to nuclear safety.

Nuclear Safety Risks at Zaporizhzhia NPP Are Increasing

Earlier this week, the IAEA reported, citing the Russian occupation administration of the plant, that a driver from the transport department of the Zaporizhzhia NPP was killed due to a drone strike near the plant. These incidents highlight the growing danger to nuclear infrastructure facilities in the region.
