IAEA Confirms Stable Radiation Levels at Zaporizhzhia NPP

The radiation level at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant remains within normal limits. Representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who are directly present at the ZNPP, have not recorded any changes in the radiation background indicators.

Agency and Ukrainian Authorities’ Response

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reiterated that the radiation background situation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP is stable. The agency notes that the Ukrainian team on-site is recording normal radiation levels that do not exceed established limits.

“The IAEA team at the Zaporizhzhia NPP in Ukraine confirms that the radiation level at the facility has not increased,” the agency emphasized.

On July 29, there were reports circulating on social media about a possible increase in radiation levels in Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding area. This was allegedly attributed to winds blowing from the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.

However, the Ukrainian ministries of internal affairs and energy promptly refuted these rumors. According to their information, no deviations from normal radiation levels have been recorded in the region.

The Situation Around the ZNPP is Under Control

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has been under the control of Russian military forces since the beginning of the full-scale aggression. Since then, the occupiers have repeatedly violated the safety regulations for the operation of the nuclear facility. This poses a constant threat of a technological disaster, as enemy equipment and personnel are still located on the plant’s territory.

A few days ago, a plume of smoke was observed near the nuclear power plant in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region, after which power supply interruptions were recorded in the area.
