Hungary Completely Revoked Deportation and Restrictions for Oschadbank Cashiers

Hungarian migration authorities on May 18 finally annulled all measures that had previously been applied to seven employees of the Ukrainian “Oschadbank”. This includes the cancellation of deportation decisions and entry and residence bans in the Schengen Area for a period of three years.

Cancellation of Sanctions and Legal Closure of the Case

According to official information, Hungarian authorities also ordered the removal of all data about these individuals from state information systems. This means a complete legal closure of the proceedings regarding the bank employees on the territory of Hungary. Initially, the measures were justified by national security considerations, but later the position was officially reviewed.

“Oschadbank emphasizes that the decision to lift the restrictions was made after the Ukrainian side initiated a judicial appeal. At the same time, Hungarian authorities did not wait for the final court decision and independently waived the previously imposed sanctions.”

Background of the Incident and Return of Assets

In March 2026, two Oschadbank cash transport vehicles were detained in Hungary while carrying cash and banking metals as part of an international financial operation. During the incident, Hungarian law enforcement seized funds and valuables belonging to the Ukrainian bank. Subsequently, Ukraine returned these assets.

The decision of the Hungarian authorities to lift the restrictions indicates the resolution of the conflict and the restoration of the rights of Oschadbank employees to free movement within the Schengen Area.
