Weather Conditions and Recommendations for Residents

According to the hydrometeorological center, the capital will be cloudy throughout the day, with light wet snow and rain expected. The wind will be southeast at speeds of 7-12 m/s. Daytime and nighttime temperatures will range from -1 to -3 degrees Celsius. Due to icy conditions, residents of Kyiv are advised to exercise extreme caution and follow safety recommendations for moving around the city.

Advice for Drivers and Pedestrians

Drivers are advised to adhere to speed limits, increase the distance between vehicles, and avoid risky maneuvers that could lead to accidents. When approaching pedestrian crossings and near children’s facilities, they should reduce speed to a minimum and ensure that their headlights or fog lights are turned on. During heavy precipitation and icy conditions, it is not advisable to use vehicles with summer tires.

Pedestrians are advised to move slowly, slightly bending their knees and stepping with the full sole of their foot, keeping their hands out of their pockets and moving them in sync with their walking to maintain balance. In case of losing balance, they should try to quickly crouch down to avoid falling. It is important to be cautious not only on the road but also on sidewalks, as vehicles can skid. Additionally, it should be noted that the stopping distance for vehicles on slippery roads increases by 4-5 times.

“In case of bad weather, we urge Kyiv residents to avoid unnecessary travel around the city, and if possible, to refrain from using personal vehicles in favor of public transport. This will help avoid traffic jams in the capital and significantly speed up the work of municipal services and special equipment that clear and treat the street and road network. If staying home during bad weather is not possible, we ask everyone to be extremely careful and follow the advice that will help prevent injuries during icy conditions.”

Municipal services and enterprises of all forms of ownership are responsible for timely and quality cleaning of adjacent territories. The enforcement of urban maintenance rules in Kyiv is carried out by landscaping inspectors. In case of non-compliance with these rules, fines are imposed: for individuals — from 340 to 1360 UAH, and for officials and entrepreneurs — from 850 to 1700 UAH.
