Defense Cooperation: New Drone Deliveries for Ukraine
This was announced ahead of the meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group taking place in Berlin, attended by UK Defense Secretary John Healey. The government emphasized that the new package includes the delivery of thousands of modern long-range strike drones, as well as reconnaissance, logistics drones, and maritime drones that have already undergone combat testing on the front lines in Ukraine. The first batches of the latest drones began arriving at Ukrainian units in April.
“The new package, the largest of its kind ever supplied by the United Kingdom, will include thousands of long-range strike drones, reconnaissance and surveillance drones, logistics drones, and maritime assets that have been tested in combat on the front lines of Ukraine. Deliveries of these new drones to Ukraine have already begun this month.”
British Companies and the Strategic Importance of Drones
London emphasizes that drones play a key role in both the counteroffensive operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and in repelling massive attacks from the Russian Federation. Most of the funding for this package will go to British businesses, including companies like Tekever, Windracers, and Malloy Aeronautics. This will contribute to the creation of new jobs in the UK and the development of the national defense industry, while also strengthening Ukrainian security and sovereignty.
The British drone sector is rapidly developing, supporting both its own security and broader European deterrence, while also stimulating the development of innovative technologies in various regions of the country.
UK Defense Secretary John Healey is convinced that supplying a large number of battle-tested drones will significantly enhance the capabilities of Ukrainian forces to defend against Russian aggression. He emphasized London’s unwavering support for Ukraine, highlighting that even amid attention to events in the Middle East, the United Kingdom will not divert from helping Ukrainians in their fight for peace.
Funding for the drone package is provided through the European Union’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration mechanism. In addition to drones, the United Kingdom plans to transfer hundreds of thousands of artillery shells and thousands of air defense missiles to Ukraine in 2026 to bolster the military capabilities of the state.
