In May 2025, there was a significant increase in prices in the Ukrainian used car market, especially for diesel vehicles and electric cars. The average cost of diesel cars reached $7400, while electric vehicles increased in price to $16,000. Despite budget cars remaining popular, the share of sales of expensive models is gradually rising, leading to an overall increase in prices in the automotive segment.

Increase in Listings and Market Financial Volume
The number of new listings for used cars in May rose to 218.3 thousand, which is 2.1% higher compared to the previous month. However, market activity is still 12.1% lower than the level in May 2024. According to experts, the financial volume of listings in the used car market in May amounted to $2.1 billion, which corresponds to the average figures of recent months. This indicates market stability and the potential for forecasting future trends.
Market Structure and Price Dynamics
The majority of listings are in the budget segment: cars priced at $1,000–$2,000 account for 10.4% of all offers, $2,000–$3,000 make up about 9%, while over 25% of listings pertain to cars priced at $3,000–$6,000. Cars in the mid-price segment ($7,000–$15,000) are gradually losing their market share, while premium vehicles ($20,000+) have increased to 9.4%. This may indicate a surge in the import of expensive cars from the USA and the European Union.
Prices by Fuel Type:
- Gas-powered vehicles: average price – $2550 (decrease of $150)
- Gasoline cars: average level – $5950 (decrease of $50)
- Diesel vehicles: average price – $7400 (increase of $200)
- Hybrids (HEV/MHEV/PHEV): average cost – $13,000 (decrease of $900 due to a reduction in supply)
- Electric vehicles: $16,000 (increase of $100), with a trend of further growth ahead of VAT restoration
“The increase in prices in the premium segment and the heightened demand for electric cars may indicate changes in consumer priorities. At the same time, stability in the mass segment of used cars suggests a sustained broad demand for affordable transportation.”
The further price dynamics in the Ukrainian used car market will depend on the exchange rate, customs policy, and demand for imported vehicles. Experts note that the market is gradually regaining activity after the winter slump while maintaining a stable financial volume and a wide variety of offers for different categories of buyers.
