Strategic Partnership in Energy and Security
During the meeting, the leaders of the two countries discussed key aspects of future cooperation, including the implementation of a major joint energy project. President Zelensky emphasized the mutual interest in this large-scale project, which will strengthen the positions of both states in the energy sector.
“We have agreed on a common interest in one major energy project between Ukraine and Turkey,” said Zelensky.
In addition to energy, particular attention was given to security issues and economic cooperation. The leaders also touched upon the topic of holding a trilateral meeting at the highest level in Turkey involving the Russian Federation. Erdoğan supported this initiative, but additional negotiations with the Russian side are necessary for its implementation.
Development of Relations with Middle Eastern Countries and Syria
During the negotiations, the active involvement of Turkey in the implementation of joint projects in partnership with Middle Eastern countries and the Gulf region was also discussed. President Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s intentions to expand cooperation with these states, particularly in strategic areas.
After the negotiations, the head of Naftogaz of Ukraine, Serhiy Koretsky, met with the Turkish Minister of Energy to discuss the details of future cooperation. Simultaneously, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov held consultations with Turkish partners regarding the development of defense projects that are on the agenda of both countries.
President Zelensky also announced Ukraine’s intentions to intensify its presence in Syria following the change of power in that country. Kyiv has already established new political contacts with the Syrian leadership and plans to resume the operation of the Ukrainian embassy in Damascus. The parties agreed to expand cooperation in the agro-industrial sector, food security, and infrastructure.
As the head of state emphasized, important agreements have been reached regarding agricultural contracts, which opens new opportunities for the development of Ukrainian exports and strengthens positions in international markets.
