Tomato Prices in Ukraine Decreased in December Due to Increased Imports

У грудні фіксують падіння цін на томати

In December 2025, a noticeable decrease in tomato prices was recorded in the Ukrainian market. Experts note that this was caused by a simultaneous increase in imports and a decrease in demand for tomatoes, especially after a brief price spike the week before.

Increase in Imports and Decrease in Local Product Supply

Analysts point out that this week, imported tomatoes dominated the market, as most Ukrainian greenhouse enterprises had already completed their sales season for the current turnover. The supply of imported vegetables significantly increased, leading to a rise in the overall market supply.

As a result, wholesale prices for tomatoes dropped to 65-75 UAH per kilogram ($1.54-1.78/kg) by the end of the current week, which is on average 13% cheaper compared to the previous week.

Reasons for the Price Trend and Traders’ Forecasts

The main reason for the negative price trend is the sharp decline in demand for tomatoes. An additional factor is that the quality of imported products did not always meet buyers’ expectations.

Imported tomatoes are currently sold in Ukraine at an average of 10% cheaper than in December of last year. Representatives of wholesale companies do not rule out further price reductions, as maintaining current sales volumes would force traders to make concessions to buyers to avoid accumulating unsold products in warehouses.

“Most representatives of wholesale companies do not rule out further price reductions. According to traders, if current sales rates persist, they will be forced to continue conceding to buyers to prevent the accumulation of unsold products in warehouses.”
