The US Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, officially stated that if Russia does not agree to cease hostilities in Ukraine, additional economic restrictions may be imposed on Moscow. Waltz also emphasized that in the event of ignoring the demands to stop aggression, Washington is prepared to continue supplying defensive weapons to Kyiv.

US Intent to Intensify Sanction Pressure on the Russian Federation
US President Donald Trump confirmed that sanctions on Russian oil will remain in effect, and the American administration will soon introduce new restrictions, including against the company “Lukoil.” According to Trump, these sanctions will complicate the export of Russian oil, which will further impact the Russian economy.
At the same time, Russian dictator Putin, speaking about Trump’s “peace plan”, stated that Russia is ready for negotiations, but “is also satisfied with the dynamics” of the hostilities.
Sanction Exceptions: Permission for Operations with “Rosatom” in the EU
Despite the overall tightening of the sanctions regime, US authorities recently issued a license allowing certain operations related to the construction of the Paks II nuclear power plant in Hungary involving the Russian state corporation “Rosatom.” This document effectively provides certain exceptions to the American sanctions imposed on the Russian financial sector due to the war Russia is waging against Ukraine. As explained in Washington, such exceptions are a necessary step aimed at ensuring the energy security of partners in Europe.
At the same time, Kremlin representatives, including spokesperson Peskov, openly state that intensive attacks on Ukrainian cities and pressure on the front are being used to force Ukraine to sign a peace agreement on Russia’s terms. Thus, diplomatic tension surrounding the situation is rising, while the positions of the parties remain rigid.
