The searches conducted by NABU and SAP detectives at the residence of the Head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, are likely connected to the investigation of a large-scale corruption case in the energy sector known as ‘Midas’. This investigation has raised concerns among Western partners regarding the level of corruption in Ukraine, especially in light of Kyiv’s requests for further financial and military support.

Reasons for the Searches and the Course of the Investigation

According to sources familiar with the situation, the searches at Andriy Yermak’s home occurred as part of the ‘Midas’ case, which has already implicated the Office of President Volodymyr Zelensky. As a result of this investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for businessman Timur Mindich, who has left the country, and several ministers have resigned. Mindich is suspected of creating a criminal organization, unlawfully influencing former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, and laundering money obtained through criminal means.

“This case has heightened concerns among Western allies regarding the scale of ongoing corruption in Ukraine”.

Reaction to the Investigation and Yermak’s Role

The investigation has intensified as Ukraine continues to call on international partners for support, and the high-profile ‘Midas’ case has served as yet another signal to Western governments about the need to strengthen anti-corruption efforts. In this context, it is noted that President Zelensky appointed Andriy Yermak as the head of the Ukrainian delegation for peace negotiations with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. Yermak himself has repeatedly become a figure of controversy due to the concentration of power in his role as Head of the President’s Office.

It is worth noting that on November 28, NABU and SAP detectives conducted searches in Andriy Yermak’s office in the government quarter. No official information has been released regarding the specific investigation under which these actions were carried out.
