One of the largest oil refineries in Russia, owned by the company Lukoil, has ceased operations following a massive drone attack carried out by Ukrainian military forces on April 5.

The Attack Caused a Fire and Production Halt

The Nizhny Novgorod Oil Refinery was forced to temporarily suspend its production process. Experts are currently assessing the extent of the damage and analyzing the possibility of quickly restoring the plant’s operations. Before the incident, the facility processed approximately 320,000 barrels of oil per day.

“The fourth largest refinery in Russia, Nizhny Novgorod Oil Refinery, has suspended operations following a strike by Ukrainian drones. The plant processed about 320,000 barrels of oil per day. A fire broke out on the premises after the strike,” the report states.

Damage to Key Infrastructure of the Plant

The attack seriously damaged critically important facilities of the production complex, including equipment and the power station that supplied energy to the plant. The extent of the destruction is currently being clarified, but it is known that these damages could significantly affect the speed of restoring production capacities.
