Metaplanet, a Japanese public company, has significantly expanded its Bitcoin assets by acquiring an additional 1234 BTC. As a result of this latest transaction, the company’s total portfolio has reached 12,345 BTC, surpassing the amount of Bitcoin controlled by Tesla.

Financial Details of the Investment and Profitability
Metaplanet’s latest purchase cost 19.2 billion yen, equivalent to $132.7 million. The average price of one Bitcoin during this transaction was 15.6 million yen or $107,557. Currently, the company owns 12,345 BTC with a total value of 175.68 billion yen (approximately $1.3 billion). The average cost of one Bitcoin in Metaplanet’s portfolio is 14.2 million yen ($98,569).
The company’s investment performance in recent periods has been as follows:
- July 1 – September 30, 2024: 41.7%;
- October 1 – December 31: 309.8%;
- January 1 – March 31, 2025: 95.6%;
- April 1 – June 26: 112.2%.
Metaplanet’s Plans and Market Reaction
Metaplanet has ambitious plans — the company announced its intention to increase its Bitcoin assets to 270,000 BTC by the end of the 2027 financial year. It also plans to invest up to $5 billion in its American subsidiary.
It is worth noting that the news of the significant increase in Bitcoin reserves immediately affected the stock price of Metaplanet: on the daily chart, it fell by 5.2%.

After the latest purchase, Metaplanet has risen to the top five largest public Bitcoin holders in the world, surpassing Tesla, which, according to expert estimates, controls 11,509 BTC. At the same time, Tesla officially reports owning 9,720 BTC.
