In Kyiv, two deputy directors of the branch “Center for the Construction and Repair of Track” of the joint-stock company “Ukrzaliznytsia” are suspected of embezzling state funds during the procurement of equipment for locomotives. Investigators found that the officials entered into a contract in 2023 with a private company for the supply of necessary equipment for railway transport, purchasing it at significantly inflated prices.

Material losses and criminal liability
As a result of this scheme, the state company incurred losses amounting to over 4.4 million hryvnias. The individuals involved in the case have been charged under part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – this pertains to the misappropriation or embezzlement of property or acquisition of it through abuse of office.
“The penalty for the charged article includes imprisonment for a term of 7 to 12 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to 3 years and confiscation of property.”

Additionally, according to the investigation, one of the officials of “Ukrzaliznytsia” previously received a charge for demanding a bribe of 100 thousand dollars in cash from a representative of a company in the Khmelnytskyi region.
