In the Ukrainian market, a significant increase in prices for greenhouse tomatoes has been recorded over the past week. The main reason for the price hike is the limited supply of this product, which has affected price dynamics.

Impact of Imports and the Situation in Foreign Markets
A significant factor contributing to the price increase has been the rise in prices in Turkey — the main supplier of tomatoes to Ukraine. This is related to the activation of Turkish tomato exports to European Union countries, which has led to a decrease in supply volumes to the Ukrainian market.
According to analysts, over the past seven days, the price of greenhouse tomatoes has risen by an average of 10%. Currently, the price for this vegetable ranges from 160 to 180 hryvnias per kilogram (3.68–4.14 dollars per kilogram).
Demand, Supply, and Market Expectations
Market participants explain the price increase by the fact that demand for fresh tomatoes remains high, while the supply of the product is limited. Domestic production in Ukraine has not yet reached peak volumes: greenhouse farms have only just begun harvesting the new crop, so the domestic supply is still minimal. The market remains dependent on imports.
“Currently, prices for greenhouse tomatoes in Ukraine are already on average 77% higher than during the same period last year,” the report states.
Sellers predict that in the second half of April, prices may stabilize or even halt their growth. This is attributed to the arrival of new batches of tomatoes from Ukrainian producers, who are gradually increasing their harvest volumes.
It is worth noting that a similar situation has been observed this week in the carrot market: the price of quality products surged by 20% due to high demand and limited supply.
