Fire at Oil Terminal in Primorsk Intensifies After Drone Attacks

The fire at the oil terminal in the port city of Primorsk, located in the Leningrad region of Russia, has significantly intensified. This is confirmed by new satellite images from Planet Labs, obtained by the project “Schemes.”

This is reported by Finway

The Fire Has Been Ongoing for the Fifth Day and Is Intensifying

The intensity of the fire increased after a nighttime drone attack on the port infrastructure that occurred on the night of March 27. According to information released by Ukrainian Telegram channels, the Ukrainian Defense Forces carried out a renewed attack not only on Primorsk but also on another important oil-loading port – Ust-Luga. The fire at the terminal in Primorsk has been raging for five consecutive days.

No official reports of new strikes on Primorsk have been received at this time. Meanwhile, the head of the Center for Counteracting Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, stated at the beginning of March 27 that the port of Ust-Luga in the Leningrad region “continues to experience hits.”

“Satellite imagery confirmed that the fire at the port of Ust-Luga flared up again on the morning of March 27 after another drone strike.”

Scale of Attacks and Consequences for the Russian Oil Industry

The governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, reported that since March 22, the region has been facing “unprecedented attacks by enemy drones.” Bloomberg reported that on March 26, the terminal in Primorsk began to gradually resume operations. This information is corroborated by satellite images, which showed a new vessel that was absent from the port as of March 24.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation, various facilities on its territory have been continuously subjected to airstrikes. Throughout 2024 and 2025, the main targets of the attacks have been oil refineries, as well as facilities in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has repeatedly confirmed most of these attacks, emphasizing that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are systematically taking measures to reduce the combat potential of the Russian occupation forces and compel Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.
