In August 2025, Ukraine imported 9,274 electric vehicles, more than double the figure for August 2024, when 4,146 such cars were brought in. The total customs value of the electric cars imported last month reached nearly ₴8.1 billion, while in August last year it was ₴3.8 billion. Despite the significant increase in the number of imported electric vehicles, the state budget received only ₴31.9 million from their import, as substantial tax benefits currently apply to electric cars. In comparison, in August 2024, this figure was ₴12.6 million.

Tax Exemption Regime Coming to an End
Thanks to the near-complete abolition of taxes, in August 2025, the amount of customs benefits provided for the import of electric vehicles exceeded ₴1.6 billion, significantly higher than the same period last year (₴0.78 billion). However, according to the head of the parliamentary finance committee, Danilo Hetmantsev, the continuation of the tax exemption for 2026 is not planned, as the current regime is set to expire and there are currently no grounds for its extension.
“The tax exemption for electric vehicles in Ukraine is not planned to be extended into 2026, as its validity period is ending, and there are no arguments for continuing such an import regime at this time,” said Danilo Hetmantsev.
Structure of Passenger Car Imports and Growing Demand for Electric Vehicles
Last month, Ukrainians purchased about 5,100 used passenger cars imported from the USA. This is a 6% increase compared to July. Among these cars, electric vehicles accounted for the largest share, specifically 46%, while gasoline cars made up 40% of the total number of vehicles imported from the USA.
