Electric Bulldozers and Loaders from XCMG and Fortescue Begin Operations in Pilbara

Китай сократил производство железной руды

The Chinese corporation Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) in collaboration with the Australian Fortescue has started the implementation of innovative battery-electric machines for the mining industry. These new solutions aim to achieve zero emissions at Fortescue’s operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

First Deliveries of “Green” Machines for the Mining Industry

On February 3, the co-chairman of Fortescue, along with a company delegation, visited XCMG’s headquarters in China. During this meeting, the launch of a 26-ton battery-electric front loader and a battery-electric wheeled bulldozer was presented. Both machines are designed to ensure high operational efficiency with no harmful emissions, particularly to support 70 mining dump trucks of 130 tons class.

“More than 100 units of heavy mobile equipment with zero emissions will be supplied to Fortescue’s mining operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.”

Fortescue’s Emission Reduction Strategy

These electric machines are the first batch within a larger agreement between XCMG and Fortescue. The company’s goal is to achieve zero emissions in the mining sector by 2030. In the current financial year, Fortescue is investing in a number of environmental projects, including the construction of a sponge iron plant at Christmas Creek, the development of the Cloudbreak solar power station, the implementation of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at the North Star Junction station, as well as expanding the fleet of electric vehicles across all of the company’s operations.
